In this relaxing sketching workshop, we will draw a traditional Japanese house using pencil, brush pen, and technical drawing pen.

This workshop is not about following strict rules or achieving one specific style. Instead, it is an invitation to slow down, observe, and enjoy the process of sketching freely. Inspired by Japanese architecture and aesthetics, we will explore the charm of wooden houses, quiet storefronts, tiled roofs, signs, textures, and small architectural details.

The focus will be on creating an atmospheric freestyle sketch while connecting with the calm and simplicity often found in Japanese visual culture. Whether your drawing is loose, expressive, detailed, or minimal, the goal is to enjoy the act of sketching and to create something personal.

No previous experience is required. Just come ready to relax, draw, and enjoy a creative moment inspired by Japan.

About the Instructor

André Rios is an award-winning artist who has developed a multidisciplinary skillset across a wide range of artistic mediums, combining technical precision with a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship.

Each year, he travels to Japan and South Korea to study traditional arts and techniques directly at their source, continually refining his practice and expanding his knowledge. Through these journeys, he builds meaningful connections with master artisans and immerses himself in the cultural context behind each craft.

Based in the Netherlands, André is dedicated to sharing these traditions with a wider audience, offering workshops that make these refined and often rare practices accessible. Through his teaching, he brings not only technical guidance, but also a genuine appreciation for the history, discipline, and beauty embedded in each art form.
