About the event
Join us for a relaxing and inspiring pastel drawing workshop dedicated to the beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms (sakura) with artist André Rios.
In April, Japan celebrates hanami — the traditional season of admiring cherry blossoms, symbolizing renewal and the fleeting nature of life. At the beginning of the workshop, there will be a short presentation about the cultural importance of sakura in Japan, the tradition of hanami, and the role of cherry blossoms in both Japanese and Korean spring celebrations.
After the introduction, André will guide you step by step through the process of creating your own pastel artwork, sharing essential techniques to help you capture the softness and luminosity of the blossoms.
If the weather allows, participants are warmly invited (optional, after workshop) to continue the experience outdoors. Just 5–10 minutes by bicycle from Gigant, we can gather beneath blooming cherry trees for a small photo session, a relaxed picnic, or simply to enjoy the blossoms together in the spirit of hanami.
What to expect:
Short cultural introduction to sakura and hanami
Step-by-step pastel guidance with André Rios, a professional pastel artist and winner of multiple art competitions with numerous awards
Blending, layering, color harmony, depth and texture
A calm, creative atmosphere
Your own completed pastel artwork to take home
Optional outdoor hanami gathering
All levels are welcome. Come ready to slow down, observe closely, and celebrate the elegance of cherry blossom season through art and culture.
