About the event

Join Us for a Meetup Exploring the Fundamentals of Japanese Culture

In our upcoming meetup, we will explore the traditions, values, history, and social customs that shape Japanese society today. This session is designed to be engaging, interactive, and accessible, offering insights that appeal to both newcomers and those looking to deepen their understanding of Japan.

We will explore the concept of Ikigai - 生き甲斐, the Japanese idea of finding meaning and purpose in life. For those interested in exploring this further, we recommend the following books:

  • Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles – This is widely regarded as the most popular introduction to Ikigai in the West. It combines interviews with Japanese centenarians and practical advice on finding purpose and happiness in life.

  • The Little Book of Ikigai: The Essential Japanese Way to Finding Your Purpose in Life by Ken Mogi – This book takes a concise and approachable approach, exploring Ikigai through the lens of neuroscience, Japanese culture, and everyday practices.
