About the event

Join us for a mindful and inspiring modern kintsugi workshop, where you will explore the art of repairing broken ceramics with golden pigments, guided by artist André Rios.

In this workshop, we will begin with a short introduction to the philosophy behind kintsugi, a practice rooted in embracing imperfection, transformation, and the beauty of repair. You’ll learn about its connection to Japanese aesthetics and concepts such as resilience, renewal, and the idea that breakage and repair are part of an object’s history rather than something to hide.

André will guide you step by step through the modern kintsugi process. You will learn how to carefully mend ceramic pieces and highlight their cracks using golden dust, transforming them into unique works of art. No prior experience is needed, the focus is on both technique and the meditative, reflective nature of the practice.

What to expect:

  • A short introduction to the history and philosophy of kintsugi

  • Insight into Japanese aesthetics and the idea of embracing imperfection

  • Step-by-step guidance through the modern kintsugi repair process

  • Hands-on work repairing and transforming broken ceramic pieces

  • Use of gold-toned materials to highlight cracks and create unique designs

  • A calm, mindful, and creative workshop atmosphere

  • Personal guidance and tips from artist André Rios

  • No prior experience needed. Suitable for beginners
