About the Workshop

Join us in a quiet, meditative space and discover the timeless art of Asian seal carving — a practice where craftsmanship, language, and personal expression come together in harmony.

During this workshop, your instructor will guide you through the history, meaning, and techniques behind traditional Asian seals, offering both cultural insight and hands-on experience.

Workshop contents:

• A short introduction to the history and cultural significance of Asian seal carving

• The role of seals in Asian art, calligraphy, and identity

• Understanding traditional materials, tools, and design principles

• Guidance on creating your own unique seal design, often based on your name or a meaningful character

• Step-by-step instruction in carving techniques

Following the introduction, participants will begin carving their own personalized seal under careful guidance.

Guests will complete the workshop with a finished seal and have the opportunity to test it using traditional ink, creating a tangible and meaningful keepsake.

The workshop takes place in a calm and focused setting, designed to support concentration and appreciation of this detailed and rewarding craft.

About the Instructor

André Rios is an award-winning artist who has developed a multidisciplinary skillset across a wide range of artistic mediums, combining technical precision with a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship.

Each year, he travels to Japan and South Korea to study traditional arts and techniques directly at their source, continually refining his practice and expanding his knowledge. Through these journeys, he builds meaningful connections with master artisans and immerses himself in the cultural context behind each craft.

Based in the Netherlands, André is dedicated to sharing these traditions with a wider audience, offering workshops that make these refined and often rare practices accessible. Through his teaching, he brings not only technical guidance, but also a genuine appreciation for the history, discipline, and beauty embedded in each art form.
